Janine Arvizu is a chemist (BS Biochemistry California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo; and ABD chemistry University of New Mexico) and Certified Quality Auditor (American Society for Quality #19856) who has spent nearly four decades in the field of analytical measurement quality. She established and managed an analytical laboratory for the Department of Energy, managed US Navy’s nationwide laboratory audit program, and has audited dozens of government and commercial laboratories. She conducts independent quality assessments of forensic results, helps lawyers understand laboratory analyses, and has testified in state, federal, and international courts. 

AV-rated attorney Deandra Grant is the Managing Partner of Hamilton Grant PC and is an international speaker on DWI law, science and trial skills.

A graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio with a degree in business (Finance) and Southern Methodist University’s School of Law, Grant went on to earn a Graduate Certificate in Forensic Toxicology from the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine and a Masters Degree in Pharmaceutical Science - Concentration in Forensic Science from the University of Florida’s College of Pharmacy in 2016. In 2019 Grant joined the faculty at Axion Analytical Labs as an Assistant Chromatography Instructor for the American Chemical Society. She also has served on the faculty of the Borkenstein Drug Course.

Grant is the co-author of the annually updated book, The Texas DWI Manual (James Publishing), Texas DWI: Truth & Consequences and Surviving Your Texas DWI. Grant is a Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Instructor and has completed the Drug Recognition Overview course. She was the first attorney in Texas to pass the Forensic Sobriety Assessment Certification exam. In addition, she has completed coursework in DWI forensic blood and urine testing and was trained as an operator and maintenance technician of the Intoxilyzer 5000. Deandra has certificates in Forensic Chromatography: Theory & Practice (2011 & 2015), Forensic Analysis of Solid Drugs (2014) and Forensic Principles of DUID (2015) issued by Axion Labs and the American Chemical Society. In 2015, Grant earned the distinction of being named an ACS-CHAL Forensic Lawyer-Scientist.

Grant is a member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (Board Member 2011-2016), the Dallas Bar Association, the Collin County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Dallas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (Board Member 2007-2019, Treasurer 2020, President-Elect 2021), the American Chemical Society and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. In addition, she is a Charter Member and President-Emeritus of the DUI Defense Lawyers Association.

On a personal note, Grant is the Vice President of Living the Doxie Dream Rescue & Sanctuary in Royse City, Texas. She devotes much of her time to fundraising efforts for their rescue dogs. She has been married to Eric Clendenin for 19 years and is the proud mom of Keegan (18) and Rowan (13).

Mindy Gulati is founder and CEO of Fundamental Advisory, a consulting firm focused on advising businesses, nonprofits, and law firms on issues related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Using a unique and personal approach, she designs strategic plans and custom content and workshops for organizations on issues related to implicit bias awareness, creating inclusive and innovative cultures at work, and educating on the ethical pitfalls and implications of ignoring DEI, as well as guiding organizations on legal issues such as sexual harassment and discrimination. Her approach provides the building blocks for cultural change through empathy, storytelling and understanding. She regularly tackles complex issues such as implicit and explicit bias in decision making, creating culturally competent workplaces, compensation equity, and ethical leadership and management. Her legal background gives her a key advantage in understanding these issues with an eye towards risk mitigation and by crafting specific policies and procedures to guard against the harms that workplace inequities create.

As a former criminal defense attorney and subject matter expert on implicit bias, she is passionate about fostering equity and inclusion through her work. She is intentional in the projects she takes and leaves a lasting impact on the organizations she works with. Joseph Hada is an attorney located in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Hada dedicates his practice to the defense of charges relating to OVI/DUI, Criminal and Traffic offenses. He is deeply rooted in Northeast Ohio and built a reputation as a strong advocate for his clients. 

Mr. Hada graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Heidelberg University and went on to receive his J.D. from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. Attorney Donald Timothy (Tim) Huey is the founder and owner of Huey Defense Firm in Columbus, Ohio. Attorney McShane is a trial attorney who specializes in using forensic science in defending citizens amongst us who have been accused of a crime by the Government. He is nationally known and well regarded for being a skilled and fierce litigator, but is also well known for his strong understanding and in-depth knowledge in all forms of forensic science. He earned the American Chemical Society-Chemistry and the Law Division (ACS-CHAL) designation as Forensic Lawyer Scientist (The first attorney in the United States to be designated as such). He has earned Board Certification both in DUI Defense Law by the National College for DUI Defense (NCDD) (the first and only Pennsylvania Lawyer to do so and also was the youngest person in the United States ever to be so certified) and as a Criminal Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, a Pennsylvania Supreme Court Approved Agency.

He has also earned certification in Forensic Sobriety Assessment, the first attorney to do so in the nation. He is a Sustaining Member, and was the State Delegate National Coordinator with the NCDD. Dr. Lee N. Polite is the president and founder of Axion Analytical Labs, Inc. Since its inception in 1995, Axion has provided in-depth chromatography training to every major pharmaceutical, chemical, and petroleum company in the US. Lee has been teaching chromatography to professionals for more than 30 years. He has been invited to lecture on the topic in 17 countries and has trained more than 8000 professionals. Dr. Polite earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry (Chromatography) from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) where he worked under the direction of Professor Harold McNair. Dr. McNair is recognized as one of the premier chromatography professors in the world and one of the pioneers in the field.

In addition to his technical degrees, Lee holds an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management where he majored in both strategy and marketing. Throughout his four years at Kellogg, it was ranked as the top business school in the US. Prior to receiving his advanced degrees, Dr. Polite received his Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) in Chemistry from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where he was a Rector Scholar and a member of Sigma Pi Sigma (Physics honor society) and Sigma Xi (Chemistry honor society).

After receiving his PhD, Lee spent 9 years with Amoco Corporation holding a variety of scientific and management positions including Research Scientist, HPLC Team Leader, Group Leader of Environmental Analysis, and Laboratory Supervisor of one of the largest refinery labs in the US.

Dr. Polite is a recognized authority in the field of chemistry demonstrated by the fact that he has taught chromatography courses for more than 30 years to a variety of professionals in 17 countries. He is the professor in charge of the popular American Chemical Society’s “Fundamentals of HPLC Course” and “Practical and Applied Gas Chromatography Course.” His company (Axion Analytical Labs, Inc) is the sole supplier of hands-on chromatography courses to the ACS and its 165,000 members. He has served as chromatography instructor for the DEA, United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA), the New York City Police Department’s crime laboratory, DOE’s Argonne National Labs, Hewlett Packard, Agilent Technologies, Phenomenex, along with pharmaceutical, petroleum, chemical, and environmental companies throughout the world. Dr. Polite has authored countless professional course books on chromatography, a number of publications, and three book chapters on Chromatography.

Dr. Polite also founded the renewable energy company, “Helios Scientific, LLC”, where he helped to develop “sunburst” technology. Sunburst facilitates the economical production of clean burning ethanol from a wide variety of waste plant material. This technology will help to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the world. Helios Scientific, LLC was acquired by Sweetwater Energy, Inc. in 2015. Dr. Polite now serves as the Chief Scientific Officer of Sweetwater Energy, Inc., where he will help direct the building and startup of one of the world’s first cellulosic ethanol plants.

After bartending her way across Hollywood and Beverly Hills, Angela found herself in over her head with a drinking problem that was relentless. She moved to Kansas City thinking leaving LA may help her drinking problem, only to learn that geography wasn’t the issue. 

Alcoholism had a firm grasp, and was unwilling to let go. Back in KC, her drinking was worse than ever, and so were the consequences. 

Outpatient treatment, jail, and one devastating car accident later, Angela was face to face with her demons and had to make a choice. 

As a result of her own sobriety, she dedicated her life to helping others through coaching and education.

Angela has amassed years of extensive personal study in NLP, motivational interviewing, neurobiology of addiction, trauma healing, intervention, coaching, and much more.

Pugh is also a noted freelance writer on coaching, relationships, and addiction education, and a sought-after speaker and educator on the same topics. She is a regular source on addiction and recovery for news media outlets nationwide. She resides in the Kansas City area with her dog, Henry, aka “The Boss”.

Chuck Rathburn is a nationally recognized attorney, expert witness and speaker who focuses his practice on OWI (DUI) defense in the State of Indiana. Few attorneys have his training in blood and breath testing, SFSTs, ARIDE, and DRE. In addition, he is a certified phlebotomist. Chuck has been recognized as an expert by trial and appellate courts in nine states in these areas of law and science. He was a public defender early in his career in Fulton County, Indiana, and gives his time to public defenders to increase their trial skills.

Luke Ryan is a fifth generation native of Northampton, Massachusetts. He received a bachelor’s degree from Amherst College in 1994 and a juris doctor degree, magna cum laude, from Western New England College School of Law in 2005. While at Western New England, Luke served as editor-in-chief of the Law Review and published a note on the necessity defense. 

Luke concentrates his practice in criminal defense at the trial and appellate level and in civil rights litigation. He is cooperating attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts and has collaborated with the Center for Constitutional Rights. Luke has published articles on the rights of criminal defendants to access internal affairs files in self-defense cases, challenging search warrants in drug cases, and abusive police interrogation practices. He is active in many community organizations over the years including the Performance Project, Out Now, Arise for Social Justice and Springfield No One Leaves. 

From 2005 to 2007, he clerked for United States District Judge Michael Ponsor. In 2016, Luke was recognized as a Massachusetts Super Lawyer in the area of criminal defense and began serving on the Board of Directors for the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. That same year, he received the Edward J. Dugan Award for Zealous Advocacy and Outstanding Legal Services to the Poor. In 2017, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly selected Luke as one of its Lawyers of the Year. 

Adam D. Stolte is a Kansas criminal defense attorney in the Johnson County, Kansas area who currently represents people in municipal, state, and appellate courts. Adam is NHTSA qualified for SFST and ARIDE. He is currently Amicus chair for the Kansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and is on the National College for DUI Defense’s Amicus and Research Committee. Adam received the NCDD Appellate Advocate of the Year award in 2019.
